Double Layer Dome Arrays: Enhanced Click-Feeling and Durability
This type of dome array (metal dome sheet) is similar to the single-layer metal dome switch, with metal dome contacts attached beneath the Maylar layer. The key difference lies in the Spacer, which is placed under the metal dome contacts. This design incorporates air paths that function similarly to air holes found in single-layer configurations, enhancing the click-feel when the dome contacts are pressed. Additionally, these air paths help protect the PET film from potential damage caused by the burrs on the metal dome contacts and prevent dust infiltration, ensuring the longevity and reliability of the dome arrays. Here’s a brief explanation of the design based on what you’ve described:
Metal Dome Keypad Design Guide Overview:
Dome Array
This type of array uses metal dome contacts that are attached to a sheet, often made of a flexible material like Mylar.
Spacer Placement
Unlike the single-layer type, where the spacer might be placed differently, in this design, the spacer is positioned underneath the metal dome contacts.
Air Paths
Air paths function similarly to air holes found in single-layer designs.
These paths
- Enhance the tactile feedback (“click-feeling”) when the domes are pressed.
- Minimize the potential for damage to the PET (polyethylene terephthalate) film caused by burrs on the metal dome contacts.
- Help prevent dust from entering the layers, thereby protecting the PET film and maintaining the performance and longevity of the keypad.
Double Metal Dome Array Switch Key Benefits:
Improved Tactile Feedback:
Air paths contribute to a more responsive and satisfying click when the dome is actuated.
Protection from Damage:
The strategic placement of the spacer and air paths reduces the risk of wear or tearing of the PET film by preventing direct contact with sharp edges (burrs) on the metal domes.
Dust Protection:
The air paths also act as a barrier against dust, which can interfere with the functioning of the switch.
This type of design is often used in electronic devices where precise and reliable tactile feedback is required, such as in remote controls, keypads, and certain types of user interfaces.
We offer a unique “Standard Single Key Dome Array” that not only includes multiple domes on a single array but also features arrays with just one dome per piece. This design allows customers to easily peel off individual domes and place them precisely on key locations of keyboards, FPCs, or PCBs. The single metal dome array can be effortlessly removed from the release liner backing and adhered firmly to your PCB, FPC, or membrane switches, providing a convenient and efficient solution for your assembly needs.
Standard Single Key Metal Dome Array
This metal dome array features individual metal domes placed on a pressure-sensitive adhesive PET sheet. Each dome is centered on a kiss-cut adhesive square or circle, which includes a release backing that can be easily peeled off. This design is also known as a “Kiss-cut Peel Off One Dome Array” or “Peel-Off Kiss-Cut Single Key Dome Array.”
