Shanyo’s S Series dome switches are standard four-leg metal dome switches with two solderable tabs. These tabs allow the dome to be soldered directly to a printed circuit board or flex circuit without affecting performance. Like traditional tactile domes, welded domes are normally open momentary contacts that provide clear tactile feedback to let the user know a button has been pressed.
Traditional methods of adhering metal domes to circuit boards require using tape or placing them in a shim bag. This process is usually done semi-automatically or manually and requires an assembly procedure. A major advantage of solder domes is the ease of assembly and the ability to use existing surface mount technology (SMT) equipment to place these domes.
